Experience Christmas in the village of Pieve Tesino with markets, Krampus, and the traditional 'filò'

In the heart of Valsugana, nestled on the Tesino plateau at the foot of Mount Silana, the town of Pieve Tesino dons its most enchanting attire for the holidays. Renowned as the birthplace of Alcide De Gasperi and recognized as one of the 'Borghi più belli d'Italia' (Most Beautiful Villages in Italy), the town offers a widespread program of events that accompanies residents and visitors from late November through Epiphany.
The soul of the celebration is the Filò de Nadale, an evening market held at the North School Square. The name evokes the filò, an ancient rural custom of gathering in stables at night to stay warm, chat, and socialize: a spirit of conviviality that the event brings back to life every winter. The Tesino community gathers around food stalls and local craft booths, enjoying good food, mulled wine, and live music.
The Pieve Tesino Christmas calendar balances family-friendly moments with Alpine folklore. Children eagerly await the arrival of Santa Claus with gifts and dedicated shows, while the Filò evenings host the spectacular Krampus parade, the demonic figures of Alpine tradition descending from neighboring valleys—Valle dei Mocheni, Val di Fiemme, and Vallarsa. The program also includes walks through the nativity scenes and historic doorways, evening hikes with local associations, and, to close the season, the Epiphany celebrations with the 'Befana dei Tosati' and the Alpine Group's bingo.
The festival is organized by the Pro Loco of Pieve Tesino in partnership with the Municipality and the collaboration of numerous local associations: the Social Band, the Folk Group, the Volunteer Firefighters, the SAT, and the Alpine Group. This strong community fabric makes Christmas in Pieve Tesino an authentic celebration, deeply rooted in the identity of the Tesino valley and the province of Trento, in the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
Christmas in Pieve Tesino with the traditional Filò de Nadale is expected to return for the 2026 holidays in the Valsugana village, in the province of Trento. At the moment, the precise dates and detailed program for the 2026 edition have not yet been published by the Pro Loco of Pieve Tesino and the Municipality.
Based on previous years, the event typically takes place in the weeks surrounding Christmas, featuring the Filò de Nadale evenings at the North School Square — with food stalls, craft markets, and live music — the arrival of Santa Claus, the spectacular Krampus parade, and Epiphany events. The updated program will be announced by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
Pieve Tesino is located on the Tesino plateau, in Valsugana, approximately 40 km east of Trento. By car, it can be reached from the SS47 Valsugana road by taking the turnoff toward Tesino. The nearest train stations are Borgo Valsugana or Grigno, on the Trento-Venice line, with connecting bus services.
Events are spread throughout the holiday season, between late November and Epiphany. The Filò de Nadale evenings take place at the North School Square starting at 6:00 PM.
All events are free to attend. Food and drinks at the stalls are available for purchase.
