Floats, masquerades, and music through the streets of the Caserta town
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
When the Carnival season arrives, San Felice a Cancello transforms for a few hours. Confetti blankets the pavement, speakers on the floats blast music through the streets, and children in costume take over the town. The allegorical float parade promoted by the Pro Loco Polis APS association is one of the most anticipated winter events in this municipality of the province of Caserta, in Campania. It carries the authentic flavor of grassroots festivals, built without massive budgets but with a great deal of volunteer effort.
The Pro Loco Polis is a social promotion association active in the municipality, dedicated year-round to animating the town's civic and cultural life: Christmas initiatives, patronal feast events, and universal civil service projects for youth. Carnival is one of the moments when this work becomes most visible, as it directly involves families, young people, and local groups in the preparation of floats and costumes.
This is a widespread model in Italy, even more deeply rooted in the South: the parade is not a show brought in from outside, but something the town builds for itself in the preceding weeks, often in garages, courtyards, and warehouses lent for the occasion.
The heart of the day is the parade. The floats, handmade with lightweight structures, papier-mรขchรฉ, and colorful decorations, travel through the streets accompanied by costumed groups, loud music, and clouds of confetti. The footage from the 2025 edition shared online by Pro Loco Polis captures the atmosphere well: a slow, very noisy, and highly participatory procession, with the public lining the streets and children following the floats on foot.
Carnival does not have a fixed date: it depends on the liturgical calendar and shifts every year along with Easter. Parades usually take place on the weekends leading up to Shrove Tuesday, typically between late January, February, and sometimes early March. In San Felice a Cancello, the event usually falls in February, on a holiday afternoon to allow families to participate.
For the 2026 edition, an official date has not yet been announced by the organizers: those wishing to attend should follow the Pro Loco Polis social media channels, where announcements are generally published a few weeks before the parade.
Multiple Carnival traditions coexist within the municipal territory. In the Cancello Scalo district, the Pro Loco Cancello Scalo has organized the Carnevale Insieme event for many years, which reached its twenty-sixth edition in 2026, held in Piazza Castra Marcelli. Those in the area during the Carnival period can therefore find several festive opportunities just a few kilometers apart, each with its own audience and associative history.
The municipality has just under seventeen thousand inhabitants and is located about 86 meters above sea level, some thirty kilometers northeast of Naples, in a strategic position between the Caserta area and the Nola region. The territory includes several localities, including Polvica, Cave di San Felice, San Marco Trotti, and Cancello di Ferrovia.
The town's recent history is linked to the railway: having become an autonomous municipality in 1825, it assumed its current name in 1862, following the construction of the Naples-Caserta line passing through Cancello, a railway junction that marked the development of the settlement and made it an important transit point in the Campanian hinterland.
Carnival is one of the most vibrant seasons of the year in Campania, and the province of Caserta is one of its most prolific areas: from the historic parades of Capua and Maddaloni to the rhythmic rites of the bottari in Macerata Campania, passing through the events in Marcianise, Sparanise, and many small towns. In this landscape, the San Felice a Cancello Carnival holds the place of a community celebration: no declared tourist ambition, but a day that the town gifts itself every year.
At the time of verification, no official communications regarding the dates and program for the 2026 edition of the San Felice a Cancello Carnival organized by the Pro Loco Polis APS were found. This page therefore indicates an approximate period, consistent with the event's usual placement in February, within the mobile Carnival calendar.
As in previous editions, the event is expected to revolve around the parade of allegorical floats created by volunteers and local groups, accompanied by masks, music, and entertainment for children along the streets of the center, in the province of Caserta.
Those intending to participate are invited to check the date, time, and route on the official Pro Loco Polis channels before traveling: Carnival parades may also be postponed in case of bad weather.
By train: the Cancello station, a historic railway junction between Naples, Caserta, and the Campanian hinterland, serves the municipal area; from the station, the center of San Felice a Cancello can be reached in a few minutes by car or local connections.
By car: the municipality is located about 30 km northeast of Naples and a short distance from the Caserta and Nola areas, well-connected to the provincial road network. On the day of the parade, some streets in the center are closed to traffic: it is advisable to park in the outlying streets and proceed on foot.
The parade takes place on the street in a public space: participation is free and open to all, with no tickets or reservations required.
Organization by the Pro Loco Polis APS of San Felice a Cancello. Dates and programs are announced on the association's social media channels in the weeks leading up to Carnival.
Event suitable for children and families. It is advisable to arrive early to find a spot along the route and check for any postponements due to bad weather.
