The patronal feast of Bresimo in the Val di Non
Every year on August 20th, the small municipality of Bresimo celebrates its patron saint, San Bernardo. Bresimo is one of the most secluded and charming villages in Trentino: home to about 260 residents spread across the four hamlets of Bevia, Bagni, Baselga, and Fontana, it lies at the northwestern tip of the Val di Non, nestled within the Maddalene mountain range between the Val di Non and the Val d'Ultimo.
The patron saint honored in Bresimo is San Bernardo, whose liturgical feast day falls on August 20th. The heart of the celebration is the parish church of San Bernardo, located in the hamlet of Bevia, the municipal seat. The patronal feast is a deeply rooted community tradition: the solemn mass in honor of the saint brings together residents from all the hamlets, blending religious observance with the warm social spirit typical of Trentino village festivals.
The festival is also the perfect opportunity to discover a fascinating territory. In Baselga stands the Basilica Sanctuary of Santa Maria Assunta, a national historical and artistic monument of early medieval-Romanesque origin, housing frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries. Not far away, perched at over 1,200 meters on Monte Pin, lies the Altaguarda Castle, one of the highest fortifications in Trentino, which has been recently restored and offers breathtaking views across the entire valley.
The Val di Bresimo is considered one of the most wild and pristine valleys in Trentino: historic forges, mills, and old sawmills dot the landscape, telling the story of times past, while the surrounding forests and pastures offer hiking trails that provide a stunning natural backdrop to the patronal feast in the summer.
Like many patronal feasts in the small towns of the Val di Non, the San Bernardo Festival maintains an intimate and authentic character, far from the crowds of mass tourism. It is a moment for the Bresimo community to gather around their saint and their roots in a picturesque alpine setting. The 2026 edition is scheduled for August 20th; the detailed program of celebrations has not yet been released.
