Sammontana Country Festival

A village tradition in the heart of Tuscany

The Sammontana Country Festival is an unmissable summer event in the Florentine countryside. It takes place in the village of Sammontana, a small hamlet in the municipality of Montelupo Fiorentino, in the province of Florence, in the heart of Tuscany. Now in its 41st edition in 2026, the festival is organized by the ASCAS Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Montelupo Fiorentino and has become a landmark over the years for local residents and those seeking the authentic atmosphere of Tuscan village festivals.

Gastronomy and local specialties

The heart of the event is traditional peasant cooking. Every evening, the food stalls offer different menus prepared with local products. Among the most anticipated specialties are ficattole (the typical Tuscan fried dough), ciambelloni (ring cakes), and gelato—simple, genuine treats that recall the flavors of the past. The outdoor tables, nestled in the countryside, provide for convivial evenings in good company.

Music, entertainment, and charity fair

Every evening is enlivened by live music, bands, and performances that keep the festival going until late. There is also the traditional charity fair, a moment of solidarity that has always characterized the event and highlights its community spirit. Evening opening hours are generally from 8:00 PM onwards.

The Sagra Campagnola Trophy

One of the most popular events is the running race on the opening Friday. The Sagra Campagnola Trophy features a semi-competitive race of approximately 8.3 km on a mixed road and trail course, accompanied by a non-competitive 4 km walk suitable for everyone. The meeting point is usually at 7:00 PM with the start in the evening: a perfect opportunity to combine sport, nature, and a village festival.

The Country Festival takes place over two weekends between June and July in the village of Sammontana. Easily accessible from Empoli, Florence, and the entire Lower Valdarno area, the festival is a perfect opportunity to discover the genuine hospitality of the Tuscan countryside and the authentic flavors of local tradition.
