Literary events from the Turin International Book Fair in Chivasso
Every year, in conjunction with the Turin International Book Fair, the Salone OFF comes to life: a widespread, participatory, and free festival that steps out of the Lingotto pavilions to reach the neighborhoods of Turin, the Metropolitan City, and the entire Piedmont region. Among the cities participating in this great celebration of reading is Chivasso, an important hub in the Canavese area of the Province of Turin, which has hosted its own calendar of meetings with writers for several editions.
The heart of the Chivasso festival is the Movimente Civic Library, housed in the Movicentro spaces in Piazzale 12 maggio 1944. Some events are also held in the evocative Cortile Madri Costituenti of Palazzo Santa Chiara, an open-air setting in the historic center that, in case of bad weather, gives way to the Movicentro study hall. These are symbolic locations of the city's cultural life, chosen to bring readers closer to authors in an informal and welcoming atmosphere.
The Chivasso program of the Salone OFF offers a selection of author meetings distributed throughout the duration of the Turin festival. Themes range from contemporary novels to travel writing, and from international cooperation to stories of resilience and adventure. Each presentation is accompanied by a dialogue with the audience, with the opportunity to ask questions and meet the guest writers in person.
The Salone OFF was created to extend the reach of the Book Fair well beyond Turin, transforming the entire region into a grand stage for literature. Chivasso's participation confirms the city's cultural vocation and offers the citizens of the Canavese region the chance to experience one of Italy's most important literary events up close, without having to travel to the regional capital. The initiative is curated by the Movimente Civic Library with the support of the Municipality of Chivasso.
For 2026, Chivasso participated in the Salone OFF with three literary meetings, included in the calendar of the Turin International Book Fair (May 8-19, 2026, with Greece as the guest country and Umbria as the guest region). The events, all with free admission, ranged from accounts of cooperation experiences in Africa to contemporary fiction, and stories of bicycle adventures toward the world's highest peaks.
