The grand masquerade festival of Salice Salentino, featuring floats, colors, and pure joy
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Salento winter, as the town prepares for the most playful time of the year, the Salice Salentino Carnival transforms Salice Salentino — a town in the province of Lecce, in the heart of the Apulian Salento — into a grand open-air stage. Masks, confetti, music, and entertainment fill the streets of the historic center for a day of celebration that brings together young and old alike.
The highlight is the masquerade parade, which sets off from Via Umberto I and winds through the town streets — Via Pasquale Leone, Via Maria Cristina, Via Dante Alighieri, Via Fontana, Via Manzoni — until it reaches the Largo Parco Giochi Comunale (Municipal Playground), where the event culminates in a final party. Along the route, animated groups, mascots, music, pranks, and surprises alternate in an atmosphere of contagious joy.
The Salice Salentino Carnival is designed as an inclusive, family-friendly event. Children are the true stars, surrounded by colorful costumes, dedicated entertainment, and games, while adults participate with costumed groups and original disguises. The heart of the day is the creative and original costume contest, with a final awards ceremony celebrating the imagination and inventiveness of the participants.
The event is promoted and organized by the Municipality of Salice Salentino, with the involvement of the local administration and regional associations. The Carnival is part of a calendar of events that animate the life of this Salento town throughout the year, also famous for its winemaking tradition and the wine denomination that bears its name.
Experiencing the Salice Salentino Carnival means immersing yourself in the most playful and popular atmosphere of Salento, amidst colors, tradition, and a shared desire to have fun together.
The Municipality of Salice Salentino has not yet released official dates and programs for the 2026 edition of the Salice Salentino Carnival. Based on previous editions, the event takes place during the Carnival period with a large masquerade parade that crosses the town center and concludes with a party at the Municipal Playground. The detailed program — route, times, and costume contest — will be announced by the organizers shortly before the event.
