The patronal festival of San Vito Romano
Every year in mid-June, coinciding with the liturgical feast on June 15th, the town of San Vito Romano — a village perched in the Monti Prenestini, within the Metropolitan City of Rome — pays tribute to its patron saint with the Saint Vitus Martyr Festival. It is the most anticipated event of the year for the local community: a tradition that for over thirty years has woven together religious devotion, folk art, music, and fine local cuisine, attracting visitors from across the Prenestina valley and neighboring towns.
The flower festival of Borgo Mario Theodoli
The heart of the event is the infiorata (flower festival) that winds along Borgo Mario Theodoli, the main street of the ancient village, illuminated for the occasion with traditional lights. On Saturday afternoon, groups of young volunteers, students, parish members, and local citizens — joined by expert floral artists — begin composing the floral displays, working through the night until the first light of Sunday. The designs, featuring religious and symbolic themes, convey messages of peace and hope each year, turning the street into a long corridor of colors and scents, admired from above like a carpet stretching through the town.
The procession and religious significance
On Sunday morning, Holy Mass is followed by a procession through the streets of the historic center: the statue of Saint Vitus the Martyr, accompanied by religious banners and hundreds of the faithful, is carried directly over the floral carpets. A particularly moving moment is the final run of the bearers toward the Saint's church in the highest district of the town, sealing the deep bond between the community and its patron.
Music, gastronomy, and conviviality
Alongside the religious aspects, the festival has a vibrant popular soul. The food stalls managed by the Pro Loco offer traditional local dishes, while Piazza Garibaldi hosts live music performances, dance evenings, and DJ sets. The community's favorite moments are always present: the Sunday communal lunch, entertainment for children, and the unmissable tombola draw, which brings the festivities to a joyful close.

The event is promoted by the Pro Loco of San Vito Romano in collaboration with the Il Pellegrino Cultural Association and the Parish Festival Committee, with the patronage of the Municipality of San Vito Romano and the Lazio Region. A collective effort that involves the entire town, making the patronal festival one of the best opportunities to discover this Lazio village, with its medieval alleys, panoramic views of the Monti Prenestini, and authentic local hospitality.

The 2026 edition: the village as the protagonist
For 2026, the Pro Loco of San Vito Romano, together with the Il Pellegrino Cultural Association and the Parish Festival Committee, concentrated the festivities on the weekend of June 13th and 14th, under the patronage of the Municipality of San Vito Romano and the Lazio Region. The common thread was the village itself: the flower display in the upper part of Borgo Mario Theodoli and the food stalls with live music in the lower part.
On Saturday, June 13th, from the early afternoon, volunteers, students, and parish groups — joined by expert floral artists from Magliano dei Marsi — composed the floral displays, working until late at night, while in Piazza Garibaldi the evening continued with the Pop Mania musical show and the tombola draw. On Sunday, June 14th, the 10:00 AM Holy Mass was followed by the procession with the statue of Saint Vitus the Martyr and the suggestive run of the bearers toward the Saint's church; at noon, the communal lunch in the square, accompanied by music, closed the festivities.
Aerial footage shared by local press showed the central street transformed into a long corridor of light and color, animated by people of all ages: a highly attended edition that confirmed the patronal feast as the most identity-defining event of the year in San Vito.

Getting there
San Vito Romano is located about 50 km east of Rome, in the Monti Prenestini. By car: A24 Rome-L'Aquila motorway or via the Prenestina/Casilina roads passing through Palestrina and Genazzano. By bus: Cotral connections from Rome (check routes and timetables on the Cotral website).

Tips
The best time to admire the complete flower display is Sunday morning, before the procession passes. Wear comfortable shoes: the village is hilly and the streets are paved with cobblestones.
