The Saint Roch festival in the hamlet of Roccapipirozzi Alta
Roccapipirozzi Alta is a hamlet in the municipality of Sesto Campano, in the province of Isernia, on the border between Molise and Campania. Here, in mid-August, the Saint Roch Festival is celebrated, coinciding with the Ferragosto period, when the hamlet comes alive to welcome the many residents and holidaymakers who return for the summer.
The festival is part of the Sesto Campano Summer programme, the calendar of events that the Municipality of Sesto Campano organises every year, involving the main town and its hamlets. Saint Roch, venerated throughout Southern Italy as a protector against epidemics, is the object of widespread popular devotion, and in Roccapipirozzi Alta, his festival is one of the central religious events of the summer.
The occasion combines a procession and religious services with evening civil celebrations, in a typical village festival atmosphere of the Upper Molise communities. The coincidence with Ferragosto makes the festival a particularly well-attended event, capable of bringing the entire hamlet together.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Roch Festival is held on August 15 and 16 in Roccapipirozzi Alta, a hamlet of Sesto Campano. The festival, during the peak Ferragosto period, alternates between a procession, religious services, and civil celebrations, as part of the Sesto Campano Summer.
