The patronal feast of Tavagnasco featuring faith, live music, and the Beer Festival
Tavagnasco is a small town of just over 700 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Turin, Piedmont, nestled along the Dora Baltea at the gateway to the Aosta Valley, about fifty kilometers north of the regional capital. Every year in mid-July, it hosts the Saint Margaret Festival, the patronal feast that gathers the community around its saint, traditionally celebrated on July 13th.
The festival takes place on the weekend closest to the anniversary and transforms the town center into a major meeting point: three days where the religious dimension, with the solemn mass in honor of the patron saint, coexists with popular celebrations filled with music, dancing, and communal dining.
The beating heart of the festival is its musical program, which alternates live concerts with DJ nights under the marquee. The most anticipated event of the Tavagnasco summer is the Beer Festival, a well-established tradition that accompanies the patronal celebrations with draft beer, music, and plenty of conviviality.
Completing the experience are the food stalls run by volunteers, offering grilled specialties and the famous fried fish—dishes that have defined these evenings for years and attract visitors from the neighboring towns of the Canavese and the lower Aosta Valley.
Behind the Saint Margaret Festival lies the hard work of the Tavagnasco Pro Loco, supported by the Alpini group, the parish, and the Filarmonica Vittoria, the local brass band that has accompanied local events for over 130 years. The festival is part of a summer packed with initiatives, which in Tavagnasco also includes the Festa ai Piani with its historic mountain race and, in September, the Miassa Festival dedicated to the typical local specialty.
More than just a single event, the Saint Margaret Festival is a symbol of local identity: an occasion where the village reunites, families return, and generations meet, in that mix of the sacred and the profane that is the hallmark of Piedmontese patronal feasts.
