Saint Joseph the Worker Festival (Osteria della Fontana)

A neighborhood festival at the foot of Anagni

Every year, between late April and early May, the Osteria della Fontana district of Anagni — the famous "City of Popes" in the heart of Ciociaria, in the province of Frosinone (Lazio) — gathers around its parish to celebrate Saint Joseph the Worker. It is a neighborhood festival in the most authentic sense of the term: born from the community and for the community, capable of blending the solemnity of faith with the joy of conviviality.

Faith, procession, and tradition

The religious heart of the festival is the procession with the statue of Saint Joseph, which winds through the streets of the district accompanied by a brass band, alongside liturgical celebrations: Solemn Vespers, a prayer vigil organized by the Catholic Action Workers' Movement, and the Holy Mass on May 1st, the day the Church commemorates Saint Joseph the Artisan, patron saint of workers. Popular devotion thus becomes a shared memory and a sense of belonging.

Music, sports, and conviviality

Alongside the sacred moments, the festival features a program full of secular events. Food stalls offer the flavors of the Ciociaria tradition, while the evenings come alive with musical performances and live bands. There is no shortage of the Sports Festival, board games for all ages, and parish choirs, in an atmosphere of joy that involves entire families from the district and the surrounding areas.

A charitable festival

The spirit of solidarity is an integral part of the event: the proceeds from the food stalls and the traditional Charity Raffle are entirely donated to the activities of the Saint Joseph Parish. Participating therefore means concretely supporting the life of the community.

Anagni and Ciociaria

Visiting the festival is also an opportunity to discover Anagni, a medieval village rich in history and art, and the Ciociaria territory, a land of peasant traditions, food festivals, and patronal feasts.
