The Campo de' Fiori community celebrates with devotion, music, and cabaret

The Saint Joseph Festival is one of the popular celebrations that mark springtime in Rocca d'Evandro, a municipality in the Province of Caserta, located on the far northwestern edge of Campania. It takes place in the hamlet of Campo de' Fiori, one of the many small settlements dotting the vast municipal territory, which stretches between the slopes of Monte Camino and the Garigliano plain. It is a community festival in the most authentic sense: born from devotion to Saint Joseph, it expands in the evening into a social gathering for the entire town.
Rocca d'Evandro boasts a particularly rich calendar of festivities, as each hamlet cherishes its own saint and tradition. Between spring and summer, celebrations follow one another, including the Madonna del Farneto at Bivio Mortola, Santa Maria La Nova in Camino, Saint Roch — the town's patron saint — in the historic center, Santa Maria di Mortola, the Ascension on Monte Camino, Corpus Domini, Saint John the Baptist in Formella, the Most Holy Savior in Cocuruzzo, and the Assumption in mid-August. Within this tapestry of events, the Saint Joseph Festival in Campo de' Fiori traditionally takes place in the second half of May, shortly after the Saint Roch festivities on May 8th.
The most anticipated moment is the open-air evening celebration, which combines religious observance with entertainment. The 2025 edition featured a live concert and a cabaret show, with the Abruzzese artist Nduccio as the main guest. It is a classic formula for village festivals in the Caserta area: a few simple events capable of filling the town square until late at night with families, young people, and visitors from neighboring towns.
Nestled on a hill at an altitude of 83 meters, with its medieval fortress overlooking the town, Rocca d'Evandro looks out over the wide Garigliano Valley, enclosed between the Aurunci Mountains, Monte Cairo, and the Mainarde range. With just under three thousand inhabitants spread across nearly fifty square kilometers and eight hamlets — Bivio Mortola, Camino, Campolongo, Casamarina, Centro Storico, Cocuruzzo, Mortola, and Vallevona — it is a territory where community life is still organized around parishes and festival committees. The village is located just a few kilometers from Cassino and the border with Lazio, in an area of great historical and scenic interest.
Those looking for the Campania of major tourist attractions will not find crowds or massive stages here. Instead, the Saint Joseph Festival offers something rarer: the genuine atmosphere of a village feast, where popular devotion, music, and cabaret laughter coexist without filters. It is an opportunity to discover a lesser-known corner of the Province of Caserta, nestled between the mountains of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise and the coast of the Gulf of Gaeta, and to spend an evening with the community of Campo de' Fiori.
Tradition places the festival in mid-May: the historical calendar of local festivities marks May 17th as the reference date for Saint Joseph in Campo de' Fiori, while the most recent documented edition was held on Sunday, May 18th, 2025. For the next edition, it is advisable to check the dates with the Municipality of Rocca d'Evandro or the organizing committee, which usually releases the poster a few weeks before the event.
For the 2026 edition of the Saint Joseph Festival in Campo de' Fiori, no official dates or detailed programs have been made public so far. The reference remains the traditional calendar of Rocca d'Evandro's festivals, which places the Saint Joseph commemoration in Campo de' Fiori around mid-May, and the most recent documented edition, held on May 18, 2025, with a concert and cabaret show.
As with many hamlet festivals in the Province of Caserta, communication takes place mainly through posters displayed in the village and the social media channels of the organizing committee, often shortly before the event. Those wishing to attend can contact the Municipality of Rocca d'Evandro to confirm the date and program of the evening.
By car: A1 Rome-Naples motorway, exit at San Vittore del Lazio or Cassino, then follow local roads towards Rocca d'Evandro and the hamlet of Campo de' Fiori. By train: the Rocca d'Evandro-San Vittore station, on the Rome-Cassino-Naples line with a branch to Venafro, serves the area; from there, you must continue by car or taxi. Nearest airport: Naples-Capodichino, about an hour and a half away.
The festival takes place outdoors: a light jacket is recommended for May evenings, which can be cool on the hills. Parking is available along the hamlet's roads. For updated information on dates and programs, please contact the Municipality of Rocca d'Evandro (Province of Caserta).
