The patron saint festival for farmers in Sanfront, featuring local traditions, street food, and the "Viva ël cher" float
Every year, at the beginning of May, the municipality of Sanfront, located in the province of Cuneo at the foot of Monviso in the Po Valley, gathers for the Saint Isidore Festival, dedicated to the patron saint of farmers. It is one of those quintessential village festivals that captures the soul of rural Piedmont: four days during which the small community of Sanfront, with just over two thousand inhabitants, transforms the Ala Comunale and Piazza Statuto into the pulsing heart of village life.
Saint Isidore the Farmer is venerated as the protector of those who work the land, a figure deeply respected in a valley where agriculture and livestock remain central to the local identity. The festival, organized with great care by the Pro Loco of Sanfront, blends religious devotion with popular conviviality: from the solemn procession to traditional cuisine, and from evening DJ sets to lighthearted gatherings.
The program offers something for everyone. The evenings are dedicated to street food and music under the Ala Comunale, featuring DJ sets and a Caribbean-themed night. Highlights include the Fiat 500 rally in Piazza Statuto, which features a scenic drive through the countryside and a visit to a local farm, as well as the "Baula cò ti" dog event, a day dedicated to our four-legged friends with parades, games, and demonstrations.
The most anticipated moment is Sunday, with the solemn Holy Mass and procession in honor of the Saint, followed by the famous "Viva ël cher": a float from which a speech is delivered in the Piedmontese dialect. The speech is divided into two parts: one dedicated to the Saint, the church, and farming traditions, and the other focusing on village life, local administration, and satire regarding the year's events. The festival concludes with a community lunch under the market canopy, enlivened by spontaneous singing from local groups.
The Saint Isidore Festival is a well-established tradition in Sanfront, organized year after year by the Pro Loco with the support of the Municipality. For those visiting the Po Valley and the Saluzzo area in spring, it is the perfect opportunity to discover the authenticity of a small Piedmontese village, amidst great food, local humor, and popular devotion.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Isidore Festival in Sanfront, in the province of Cuneo, offered four days of festivities between late April and early May, reaffirming the Po Valley village's bond with the patron saint of farmers. The evenings enlivened the Ala Comunale with street food, a bar, and music, while the days featured events for the whole family, from the Fiat 500 rally to the dog-focused event, culminating in the traditional Sunday with Mass, a procession, and the "Viva ël cher" float. A funfair was also present during the event.
During the event: funfair.
