The only festival in Veneto dedicated to bruscandoli, in Quinto Vicentino
The Saint George's Festival and the Bruscandolo Feast are the event that animates Quinto Vicentino every April, a town in the plains of the province of Vicenza. The town is recognized as the only place in Veneto to celebrate bruscandoli, the male shoots of wild hop (Humulus lupulus), a spontaneous climbing plant that grows in woods and along hedges, with a delicate, herbaceous flavour.
The heart of the festival is the cuisine: bruscandoli, harvested in spring, are best paired with rice – the famous bruscandoli risotto, prepared with Vialone Nano rice – but they are also the stars of omelettes and soups. The food stall offers these specialities accompanied by typical local dishes and wines, in a taste experience linked to a rare ingredient found only for a few weeks a year.
In addition to gastronomy, the programme offers musical entertainment, markets, walks in the Vicenza countryside, shows, activities, a charity raffle, a funfair, and excursions. An event designed for families, with free admission and a format that combines patronal tradition, nature, and conviviality.
The festival is part of the celebrations for the patron saint Saint George, keeping alive the link between the community of Quinto Vicentino and its roots. Organized by the Comitato Sagra di Quinto, the Festa del Bruscandolo is now an identity event, capable of enhancing a unique product in the Venetian gastronomic landscape.
The 2026 edition combines the Saint George's Festival with the 5th Bruscandolo Feast, from April 21 to 25 in Quinto Vicentino. The stars are the bruscandoli, the wild hop shoots typical of the Vicenza spring, served in risotto and omelette at the food stall, alongside typical dishes and regional wines.
The programme includes musical entertainment, exhibitions, walks, shows, activities, a charity raffle, a funfair, and excursions, with free admission. Quinto Vicentino thus confirms its role as the only town in Veneto to celebrate this rare ingredient.
Detailed times and evening schedules are provided by the Comitato Sagra di Quinto Vicentino.
