The Peasant Dish Celebrated
The Festa dea Poenta e Scopeton is an autumn festival that in Alte Ceccato, a hamlet of Montecchio Maggiore in the province of Vicenza, celebrates one of the most typical dishes of the Venetian peasant tradition: polenta with scopeton, or smoked herring. It is a simple but distinctive flavor, linked to the gastronomic culture of the Vicenza area.
Three Evenings of Taste
For three evenings, from Friday to Sunday, a covered structure is set up in the parking lot of Via dei Trozi (next to the Pro Loco headquarters) where you can enjoy the traditional dish in various versions: poenta e scopeton, grilled polenta with smoked herring and bigoli and sardines. The food stand opens every evening at 7:00 PM.
Music and Conviviality
Each evening is accompanied by live music with local orchestras and bands, which provide the backdrop for the dinner. Organized by the Pro Loco Alte Montecchio Maggiore in collaboration with the Municipality, the festival is an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of Venetian peasant cuisine in a convivial atmosphere.
Poenta and Scopeton Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Festa dea Poenta e Scopeton is scheduled for October in Alte Ceccato, with the usual formula of three evenings dedicated to the iconic peasant dish of the area. The exact dates will be announced by the Pro Loco Alte Montecchio closer to the event.

How to get there
Alte Ceccato is a hamlet of Montecchio Maggiore, on the A4 motorway (Montecchio Maggiore exit). The festival takes place in the parking lot of Via dei Trozi, next to the Pro Loco headquarters.
Admission
