A festival at the birthplace of a saint

The Saint Dominic Savio Festival takes place every year in the San Giovanni district of Riva presso Chieri, in the heart of the Chieri territory in the province of Turin, Piedmont. This event is deeply rooted in the town's identity, as it was here on April 2, 1842, that Dominic Savio was born—the favorite pupil of Don Bosco, who was canonized in 1954. His Birthplace, known as the "Casetta," is now a pilgrimage site and a vibrant hub for the Salesian community in Piedmont.

Three days of faith and community

Organized by the Parish of Riva presso Chieri in collaboration with the Amici di San Giovanni and the LA CASETTA Association, the festival spans a weekend in May, offering a program that balances spiritual reflection with social conviviality.

• Friday evening: The "Walking with Mary" Holy Rosary procession through the village streets, with reflections to open the three-day celebration.
• Saturday: In the morning, a walk along the Don Bosco Way, blending faith and art, visiting historic local landmarks such as Palazzo Grosso, the Parish Church, the Confraternity, and the Madonna della Fontana; in the afternoon, a youth gathering followed by dinner and a party with music and a DJ set.
• Sunday: A family bike ride, a tribute at the monument, a solemn Holy Mass accompanied by choirs, a community lunch by reservation, and an afternoon of games and snacks for families.

Who was Saint Dominic Savio?

Dominic Savio was a student of Saint John Bosco at the Oratory of Valdocco in Turin. Having died at a very young age in 1857, he is considered a model of adolescent holiness and the patron saint of youth. The festival in Riva presso Chieri preserves his memory in the very place of his origins, keeping alive the bond between the village, the Piedmontese Salesian tradition, and popular faith.
