About Saint Blaise Festival

The Festa di San Biagio is the patronal winter festival of Lestizza, in the Bassa Friulana region. In a large heated pavilion on the sports field, food stands offer tripe, gnocchi with ragù, musetto, polenta, and sardines, while live music, briscola tournaments, and the Sunday procession with the scampanadors animate a centuries-old devotion.

Saint Blaise, Lestizza's winter festival

In early February, while the Bassa Friulana is still shrouded in cold, the town of Lestizza, in the province of Udine, celebrates its patronal festival dedicated to Saint Blaise. It is one of the few major winter festivals in the area, capable of attracting visitors thanks to the warmth of a heated pavilion and the generosity of Friulian cuisine.

Flavours of Friulian tradition

In the large heated pavilion set up on the sports field, food stands offer traditional dishes: tripa (tripe), gnocchi with ragù, musetto (Friulian cotechino), polenta, sardines, wurstel, fries, and much more. It's the hearty and convivial cuisine of the Friulian winter, perfect for warming up February evenings.

Music, games, and devotion

The festival combines entertainment and religious tradition: evenings of live music with artists and DJs, briscola tournaments, entertainment for children, and on Sundays, the evocative procession accompanied by the scampanadors, the bell ringers who are part of the local folklore. A balance between popular celebration and devotion that is renewed every year.

A centuries-old community tradition

The Festa di San Biagio is an expression of centuries-old devotion deeply rooted in the community of Lestizza, organized by the parish with the involvement of the entire town. Between prayer, gastronomy, and socialising, it represents the main winter gathering event of the Friulian town.
