The patronal feast of Minervino di Lecce, in the heart of Salento
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the heart of the Salento summer, Minervino di Lecce transforms into a vibrant display of light, music, and devotion to celebrate one of the year's most anticipated events: the Saint Anthony of Padua Patronal Feast, the community's protector. For a few days, usually around mid-August, the streets of the historic center in this small town in the province of Lecce, lower Salento, fill with worshippers, curious onlookers, and visitors arriving from across the Puglia region.
The spiritual heart of the festival begins beating long before the main days. As early as July, the statue of Saint Anthony is taken on a peregrinatio through the town's streets, visiting homes and staying with families who welcome it with emotion and prayer. This ancient ritual strengthens the bond between the saint and his people, leading the community up to the days of the grand celebration, when the statue is carried in a solemn procession through crowds of faithful.
The secular side of the festival is rich and engaging. Evenings are enlivened by brass band concerts featuring historic wind orchestras from the Puglian tradition, musical performances, and the unmissable fireworks displays that light up the Minervino sky to the applause of the crowd. Throughout the town, groups of flag-wavers and musicians perform with elegance and skill, captivating both adults and children, while artistic illuminations create glowing backdrops above the squares.
A special role is reserved for gastronomy and local craftsmanship. Along Via Bandello, the 'Via delle arti e dei sapori' comes to life—a market where stalls showcase local traditions through handmade goods, ancient crafts, and tastings of typical Salento products. It is the perfect opportunity to discover the flavors of Salento and take home a piece of this generous land.
The festival does not forget the little ones: one day is dedicated to children, with the traditional Saint Anthony feast for the youth, who gather in the square and head to the mother church, dedicated to Saint Michael the Archangel, for the act of entrustment to the saint, before proceeding in a parade towards Piazza IV Novembre, where the column dedicated to the protector stands. It is a moment that unites faith, play, and a sense of belonging, making the Saint Anthony of Padua Patronal Feast a symbol of the identity of Minervino di Lecce and all of Salento.
The 2026 edition of the Saint Anthony of Padua Patronal Feast in Minervino di Lecce is expected during the usual mid-August period, in continuity with the long devotional tradition of the Salento town. Official dates and the full program have not yet been released: as every year, the peregrinatio of the saint's statue, processions, brass band concerts, fireworks displays, and the 'Via delle arti e dei sapori' along Via Bandello are expected. The detailed calendar will be communicated by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
