The patronal feast of the Tutino district, blending faith, brass bands, and Salento music
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, at the beginning of June, the historic district of Tutino, a hamlet of the municipality of Tricase in the province of Lecce, gathers around the figure of Saint Anthony of Padua. It is a popular festival that unites spirituality, tradition, and conviviality, effectively opening the season of patronal feasts in lower Salento. The heart of the celebrations is the Santa Maria delle Grazie parish, located around the square of the same name, where both religious and secular events take place.
The festival is organized by the parish in collaboration with the Madonna delle Grazie and Saint Anthony Festival Committee. The devotional journey begins well in advance: the traditional tredicina (thirteen-day prayer) dedicated to the Saint of Padua prepares the community with daily rosaries and masses in the parish church. It is a slow, reflective time that precedes the festival itself, deeply felt by the residents of the district and the many locals who return to the village for the occasion.
The most anticipated moment is the solemn procession that winds through the main streets of the district: Via Giaccari, Via Credaro, Via San Leonardo, Via San Gaetano, and Via Angiulli, before returning to Piazza Madonna delle Grazie. The procession is accompanied by the Grande Orchestra di Fiati Lirico Sinfonica di Terra d'Otranto "Cittร di Lecce", with its marches and band repertoire that have always provided the soundtrack to Salento's patronal feasts.
The religious dimension is complemented by a festive, secular side. In the evening, the square comes alive with Salento folk music: recent editions have featured the group Stella Grande e Anime Bianche, performing pizzica, tammurriate, and traditional songs. Nearby, food stalls offer local specialties, providing the perfect opportunity for an open-air evening that blends the sacred and the profane, just as the best Puglian village traditions dictate.
The festival is also a great excuse to rediscover Tutino, a village dominated by its 16th-century castle and historically linked to the cultivation of the pepper, known as paparussu in the local dialect, a symbol of the area. Those arriving in Tricase for Saint Anthony will find a vibrant and welcoming community, nestled among the alleys, churches, and squares of the Capo di Leuca. Please note that this district festival is separate from the Saint Anthony celebrations held in the historic center of Tricase, with which it should not be confused.
The official calendar for the 2026 edition of the Saint Anthony of Padua festival in Tutino has not yet been released. Based on recent editions, the event usually takes place in the first days of June, featuring the devotional 'tredicina', the solemn procession accompanied by the band, and an evening of Salento folk music in Piazza Madonna delle Grazie. The detailed program, including times and guests, will be announced by the Festival Committee and the parish. This page will be updated as soon as information becomes public.
