Three days of faith, tradition, and community celebration in Piazza Riscatto
Every year in mid-June, Frattamaggiore gathers around its patron saint for the Saint Anthony of Padua Festival, one of the most cherished events on the city's calendar. The heart of the festivities is Piazza Riscatto, located in front of the historic Maria SS. Annunziata and Saint Anthony Parish, a place of worship dating back to the 17th century, when it was built on an ancient votive shrine dedicated to the Annunciation and the Saint of Padua. For three days, the community blends religious observance with popular tradition in a festival that is deeply rooted in the town's history.
The most solemn moment is the traditional procession with the statue of Saint Anthony, which winds through the streets of the neighborhood, accompanied by numerous faithful in a climate of intense reflection. The days are marked by Eucharistic celebrations, including a concelebration presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Aversa and the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to the parish youth. It is a sign of a devotion that renews itself from generation to generation and gives meaning to the entire event.
As evening falls, the square transforms into the stage for a popular festival open to everyone. Music, shows, and entertainment enliven the evenings, with performances by local artists and groups ranging from Neapolitan songs to dance rhythms. Presenters, karaoke, and social gatherings involve families, children, and the elderly in a festive and convivial atmosphere, typical of patronal festivals in Campania.
The festival also has a strong charitable value: the charity stalls and the parish raffle, with the drawing of winning tickets on the final evening, raise funds for parish activities. It is a way to combine fun with a concrete commitment to the community, values that have always accompanied the celebrations of Saint Anthony, a beloved protector in the popular tradition of Southern Italy.
In the municipality of Frattamaggiore, a populous center in the belt north of Naples, the Saint Anthony of Padua Festival represents much more than a religious event: it is a moment of identity where the neighborhood recognizes itself and comes together. Amidst the scent of gastronomic specialties, festive lights, and live music, the event offers residents and visitors an authentic glimpse of Campanian devotion and conviviality.
The 2026 Saint Anthony of Padua Festival in Frattamaggiore combined devotion and popular celebration in Piazza Riscatto, with a rich program of ceremonies and performances open to the entire community.
