An ancient festival in the heart of winter

Sagraspin is one of those festivals that tell the story of the agricultural soul of the Val d'Alpone. In Monteforte d'Alpone, in the province of Verona, it is celebrated on the Monday following the feast of Saint Anthony Abbot, ideally closing the long week of events that also includes the historic Montefortiana.

The tradition of the day of rest

Historically, Sagraspin marked the day when farmers and artisans took a break from work, dedicating themselves to food, wine, and conviviality. Even today, it retains this community spirit: it is also the occasion when young people turning eighteen — the class in costume — are officially presented to the town, according to a ritual that repeats from generation to generation.

The flavors of Venetian cuisine

Under the heated marquee in Piazza Salvo d'Acquisto, the Pro Loco of Monteforte d'Alpone offers the great classics of regional cuisine: mortadella accompanied by Verona radicchio and polenta, codfish with polenta and beans, local wine, and the traditional brassadelón, the Venetian dessert cake. A simple and authentic evening, far from the spotlight, that proudly preserves the roots of this village in the Soave area.
