Bavarian and Tyrolean flavors in the shadow of the Rocca di Castello
Every autumn, the village of Castello di Arzignano, in the province of Vicenza, transforms into a small Bavarian festival. The Potato and Würstel Festival, organized by the Comitato Sagra di Castello, offers a journey through the flavors of Tyrolean and German cuisine for several days, just a stone's throw from the picturesque Scaliger fortress.
The heart of the event is the large heated tent set up in Piazzale della Vittoria, ensuring the festival goes ahead in any weather. On the menu are canederli, goulash, pork knuckle, roast chicken, würstel, fried and roasted potatoes, pretzels, spätzle, strauben, and porchetta, accompanied by a wide selection of beers. A carefully curated gastronomic offering that attracts thousands of food lovers every year.
Evenings are enlivened by concerts from folk groups and Bavarian-style bands — from accordionists to orchestras with dozens of members — while the "Potato Funfair", with wooden games and inflatables, entertains the little ones. Sunday morning is dedicated to Castellando, the non-competitive walk through the streets and paths of the village. An event that combines taste, music, and socializing in the Municipality of Arzignano, in the heart of West Vicenza.
For 2026, the Potato and Würstel Festival is expected at Arzignano Castle during the usual period in October. The event will again feature the large heated tent on Piazzale della Vittoria with Tyrolean specialties, beer, folk music, and the Castellando walk.
The precise dates and full program will be communicated by the Comitato Sagra di Castello through official channels in the weeks preceding the event.
2026 program to be defined. The festival traditionally follows a four-day structure: opening of gastronomic stands in the afternoon/evening, evenings with concerts by folk and Bavarian bands, children's area with the "Potato Funfair", and on Sunday morning, the non-competitive walk Castellando. Culinary specialties include: canederli, goulash, pork knuckle, roast chicken, würstel, potatoes, pretzels, spätzle, strauben, porchetta, and beer. Specific dates and schedule will be announced by the Comitato Sagra di Castello.
The festival takes place in Castello di Arzignano, in Piazzale della Vittoria, a hillside hamlet of Arzignano (VI). Arzignano is accessible from the A4 motorway (Montecchio Maggiore exit) and the SP246.
Free admission. Heated and covered tent: the festival is held in all weather conditions. Play area for children.
