Every October, the historic centre of Thiene (province of Vicenza) hosts the Sagra Poenta e Bacalà, one of the most long-standing and characteristic festivals in the area. Founded in 1964, it is considered the "signature dish" of the Pro Loco Thiene, which has been organising it for over half a century.
Stockfish According to the Vicentina Recipe
The absolute star is bacalà alla vicentina: stockfish (dried cod) slow-cooked according to the ancient traditional recipe and served with polenta. A simple but flavourful dish, a symbol of Vicentina cuisine, which finds one of its most authentic celebrations in Thiene, sometimes enhanced by collaborations with other local excellences.
A Community Festival
The Sagra Poenta e Bacalà is organised by the Pro Loco Thiene with the patronage of the Municipality and the collaboration of Confcommercio Mandamento di Thiene. More than just a food festival, it is an autumn event that draws crowds to the squares of the town centre, confirming the deep connection between the city and the flavours of its tradition.

For 2026, the Sagra Poenta e Bacalà reaches its 61st edition. After celebrating sixty years in 2024 and the 2025 edition, this historic event confirms its role as one of Thiene's most beloved autumn gatherings.
