Four Ferragosto evenings on the Pedaso seafront with Adriatic mussels, music, and seafaring tradition
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
As Ferragosto approaches, the small municipality of Pedaso, in the province of Fermo, transforms. The seafront streets fill with the scents of the sea, marquees are erected overlooking the Adriatic, and thousands of visitors arrive from all over the Marche region and beyond for the Sagra Nazionale delle Cozze (National Mussel Festival), one of the longest-standing and most popular gastronomic events on the Fermo coast. During these days, the village, which has only a few thousand residents, can triple its population.
The absolute star is, of course, the Adriatic mussel, served in a thousand different ways: marinara style, impepate (steamed with pepper), gratinéed, in risottos and seafood soups, prepared on the spot by Pro Loco volunteers. However, the cult dish remains the spaghetti marinara with mussels, cooked according to a closely guarded historic recipe: the only ingredient that is never missing is the flat red onion of Pedaso, a local excellence now recognized as a Slow Food presidium, always grown in the gardens between the mouth of the Aso river and the sea.
Behind the village festival atmosphere lies an impressive organizational machine. Over the four evenings, approximately 130 quintals (13 tonnes) of mussels and 30 quintals (3 tonnes) of sauce are served to dress about twenty quintals (2 tonnes) of spaghetti, with the work of over 200 volunteers. The event, organized by the Pro Loco Pedaso with the support of the Municipality, has received the recognition of Sagra di Qualità (Quality Festival) from the national UNPLI and is included in the Grand Tour delle Marche circuit promoted by Tipicità and ANCI Marche.
The festival is not just about gastronomy. Every evening after dinner, the celebration continues along Viale della Repubblica, where a stage is set up for concerts, shows, dances in the piazza, and entertainment for children. Evening markets and workshops dedicated to the marine world complete the picture. The grand finale is traditionally marked by the fireworks display on Ferragosto evening, which lights up the sky over the Adriatic and beautifully concludes four days of festivities.
With over half a century of history, the Sagra delle Cozze has become part of the identity of Pedaso and the entire Marche region: an event that tells the story of the village's deep connection with its sea, its seafaring heritage, and its typical products, from the Adriatic mussel to the flat red onion.
For 2026, the Sagra Nazionale delle Cozze celebrates its 60th edition, confirming its fixed place in Pedaso's Ferragosto calendar. The indicated dates are August 12-15, 2026, still to be officially confirmed by the Pro Loco.
The formula remains the tried and tested one: food stands open from 7:00 PM in the former Platano Verde area on Via Gramsci, with mussels marinara, impepate, gratinéed, risottos, seafood soups, and the unmissable spaghetti with the historic recipe and the flat red onion of Pedaso. In the evening, on Viale della Repubblica, there will be concerts, shows, and entertainment, with fireworks to conclude the Ferragosto evening.
The detailed program of musical evenings will be announced by Pro Loco Pedaso in the weeks preceding the event, usually close to August.
The detailed artistic program for the 60th edition (evening concerts and shows) has not yet been published by Pro Loco Pedaso at the time of writing. It will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event.
The established structure of the days is as follows:
The food stands are set up in the former Platano Verde area, along Via Gramsci in Pedaso (FM). Evening shows are held on Viale della Repubblica, on the seafront.
