The Sagra di San Rocco is the summer patronal festival of Sustinente, a small municipality in the Province of Mantua overlooking the Po River. Organized by Pro Loco Sustinente, it takes place in Piazza Mercato around Ferragosto (mid-August) and draws residents from the town and surrounding areas for several evenings of popular celebration.
The 'Bettola' and Mantuan cuisine
The gastronomic heart of the festival is the Pro Loco's 'Bettola', featuring traditional Mantuan dishes: 'risotto alla pilota' (piloted risotto), pumpkin tortelli, mixed grill, mixed fried items, roast beef, prosciutto and melon, as well as a bar open every evening. Simple, authentic cuisine accompanies the evenings in the piazza.
Music, talents, and the San Rocco Tournament
The program alternates concerts, DJ sets, and shows with the usual Sustitalent, a showcase for young local artists, and concludes with the San Rocco Tournament, a light-hearted competition featuring popular games like horizontal 'cuccagna' (greased pole), egg toss, and wheelbarrow races. There's also a funfair for the little ones. This free event has been one of the most cherished community moments in Sustinente's calendar for years.

The Sagra di San Rocco returns to Sustinente in 2026, confirming the summer event organized by Pro Loco Sustinente in Piazza Mercato around Ferragosto. For the new edition, the Pro Loco's 'Bettola' with Mantuan cuisine, evenings of music and shows, the usual Sustitalent, the San Rocco Tournament, and the funfair are expected.
