The patronal festival of the Monte hamlet, between Ferragosto and community
In Monte, a hamlet of the municipality of La Valletta Brianza in the province of Lecco, the Festa dell'Assunta is the most important event of the year. Organised by the parish of Sant'Ambrogio, it takes place during the week of Ferragosto and revolves around August 15th, the solemnity of the Assumption of Mary.
The programme intertwines spirituality and community life. The religious heart is on August 15th, with the solemn patronal Mass at 11:00 AM and the procession with the statue of the Madonna in the afternoon. Around this day, there are evenings of music and dancing with orchestras and DJs, a food stand, sports tournaments (cards, table tennis, five-a-side football), and community lunches with local specialities, culminating in the final Mass for the deceased.
The festival is entirely managed by volunteers from the Monte community, making it a moment of strong aggregation. In 2025, the celebrations coincided with the 85th anniversary of the parish of Sant'Ambrogio, a sign of a tradition rooted for generations.
La Valletta Brianza, born from the merger of the municipalities of Perego and Rovagnate, preserves in its hamlets - like Monte - the patronal festivals that mark the life of the towns in the Lecco Brianza region. The Festa dell'Assunta is the best occasion to experience this community dimension.
In 2026, the Monte hamlet will again celebrate the Festa dell'Assunta during Ferragosto week, under the organisation of the parish of Sant'Ambrogio and community volunteers. August 15th remains the central event - the solemn patronal Mass at 11:00 AM and the procession with the statue of the Madonna - alongside evenings of music and dancing, a food stand, sports tournaments, and community lunches.
The detailed programme for the 2026 edition will be published by the parish in the weeks prior. The structure, consolidated over the years, includes:
Final dates and times on the channels of the parish and the Municipality of La Valletta Brianza.
The solemn patronal Mass and the procession with the statue of the Madonna on August 15th, along with the community lunches, are the most cherished moments of the festival.
