Bresaola, the pride of Valtellina
In Chiuro, in the province of Sondrio, bresaola is one of the products that best represents the gastronomic tradition of Valtellina: a lean cured meat, made from beef that is salted and air-dried in the fresh Alpine air, now recognised as PGI (Protected Geographical Indication). The Sagra della Bresaola dedicates a summer festival entirely to enjoying it.
Dinners, music, and fun
The event takes place at the La Colonia Sports Centre and is organised by the Pro Loco of Chiuro. The programme features evenings with menus based on Valtellina bresaola, accompanied by live music and dancing evenings with an orchestra. For the little ones, a play area with inflatable structures is set up, making the festival suitable for the whole family.
A community celebration
The Sagra della Bresaola is one of the events that enlivens Chiuro's summer, expressing the vitality of the Pro Loco and the convivial spirit of the Valtellina villages. Amidst good food, dancing, and socialising, the event attracts residents and visitors from neighbouring towns, confirming the role of gastronomy as a community binder in the province of Sondrio.
Sagra della Bresaola — edition 2026
The 2026 edition of the Sagra della Bresaola di Chiuro takes place over two evenings, Sunday, July 19th and Monday, July 20th, at the La Colonia Sports Centre. The Pro Loco offers menus based on Valtellina bresaola, with dinner starting at 7:30 PM, a dancing evening with the orchestra The Whites from 9:00 PM, and an inflatable play area for children.
