The Ferragosto festival in Pieve di Chiampo
In the La Pieve district of Chiampo, in the province of Vicenza, Ferragosto coincides with the Sagra dell'Assunta, dedicated to Saint Mary of the Assumption, patron saint of the town along with Saint Martin. It is one of the most heartfelt sagre (local festivals) of the Chiampo summer, which unites the religious and popular dimensions over four days around August 15th.
The religious program
The sacred part celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption with moments of prayer, Holy Masses, and confessions on all days of the sagra. The climax is the celebration on August 15th, presided over by the Bishop of Vicenza, which brings the community together in devotion to Mary.
Gastronomy, music, and celebration
On the festive side, the food stand opens every evening from 6:30 PM with local specialties – from grilled pork chop to pasta with trout sauce, to cod Vicentina style – while the program features live music and DJ sets, a beer pong tournament, the traditional round dancing on August 15th, and the unmissable fireworks display. A sagra that blends the sacred and the profane in the heart of the Chiampo Valley.
