The monumental press of Palanzo

The Sagra del Torchio takes place in the charming hamlet of Palanzo, part of the municipality of Faggeto Lario, on the shores of Lake Como, in the province of Como. The absolute protagonist is the ancient lever press, a historical monument bearing the date 1572 engraved on its supporting stone: it measures over 12 meters in length and 3 in circumference, with the wooden screw that operates it being about 6 meters high. It is one of the largest and oldest presses preserved in Italy.

Grape pressing according to tradition

During the festival, the ancient press is brought back into operation: visitors can witness the grape pressing and the production of must according to ancient tradition, in a demonstration that revives centuries-old peasant gestures and knowledge. It is a rare experience that makes this festival a unique event in the Larian festival scene.

Flavors and atmosphere of the lake

The streets of Palanzo come alive with food stalls offering typical Larian traditional dishes: polenta, cured meats, local cheeses, artisan desserts, and new wine freshly tapped from the press. Live music, artisan markets, and entertainment for children are also featured. The event, which began in 1975, is organized by the Association Friends of the Palanzo Press with the support of the Larian Triangle territory, and represents an authentic way to experience autumn on Lake Como.
