The typical product of the balcony over Lake Como, on the table for a weekend in October
Brunate is the small municipality that dominates the city of Como from above, connected to the lake by the famous funicular. Among its treasures is also a product of the land: the Brunate Onion, a traditional variety to which the autumn festival of the same name is dedicated, in the Province of Como.
The festival's format is widespread: for a weekend in mid-October, the restaurants and eateries in the village offer special menus and dishes based on the Brunate onion, from appetizers to desserts. You can go from one trattoria to another, discovering different interpretations of this product and, at the same time, enjoying the panoramic views of the village suspended over Lake Como.
The event is promoted by the Associazione Cipolla di Brunate (Brunate Onion Association), founded to enhance and protect this local cultivation. In just a few years, it has become an anticipated event, combining the rediscovery of a traditional product with the beauty of a unique location, which with its 360-degree view of the lake and the Alps has always been a popular destination for day trips from Como.
The 2026 edition of the Sagra della Cipolla di Brunate will be held in mid-October, with the usual culinary journey through the village's restaurants above Como, in the Province of Como. The exact dates will be announced by the organizers.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published shortly before the event. In previous editions, the festival took place over a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) in mid-October: participating restaurants in Brunate โ including, in past editions, Baita Carla, Bella Vista, Capolinea Bistrot, and Mamma Gina, as well as Crotto Civiglio in the hamlet of Civiglio โ offered special menus and dishes based on the Brunate Onion.

Brunate can be reached from Como by the historic funicular (Como Lago station) or by car along the panoramic road; using the funicular is recommended to avoid limited parking.
Free admission to the village; onion-based menus and dishes are subject to payment according to the prices of participating restaurants.
