For over thirty years, the small village of Conca Casale has celebrated its legumes in a festival of taste and community
Conca Casale, in the province of Isernia, is a very small village in upper Molise nestled in a sheltered valley. Its territory has a historical vocation for the cultivation of legumes — particularly lentils — to the point that local production has been the subject of studies by the University of Molise.
The Sagra dei Legumi celebrates this excellence with a festival that has surpassed thirty editions. Beans, lentils, peas, chickpeas, and grass peas become the protagonists of traditional Molise peasant cuisine recipes: pasta and beans, minestrone, soups, and side dishes prepared according to the recipes of yesteryear.
Despite its approximately 175 inhabitants, during the festival Conca Casale comes alive and attracts hundreds of visitors to the village square. The festival, open to all, is an opportunity to rediscover the authentic flavors of Molise and the hospitality of a community that makes agri-food tradition a source of pride. Conca Casale is also known for the "Signora di Conca Casale," a Slow Food presidium cured meat.
In 2026, Conca Casale renews its appointment with the Sagra dei Legumi. The festival, organized by the local Pro Loco (tourist board), confirms the established formula: tastings of local legumes in traditional Molise peasant cuisine recipes, entertainment, and conviviality in the village square. The precise date will be communicated by the organizers, including via social media channels.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, with dates and times, will be announced by the Pro Loco of Conca Casale shortly before the event. The usual format includes gastronomic stands with legume-based dishes (pasta and beans, minestrone, soups, and side dishes) and evening entertainment in the village square.
Conca Casale can be reached by car from Venafro and Isernia, along the roads that climb towards the village in the Volturno valley. The village is very small: you park at the entrance and continue on foot.
The festival takes place in August; the exact date is communicated by the organizers shortly before the event.
The festival is open to all; gastronomic tastings are paid for at the stands.
