About Sagra dea Rana

In Cona, a small municipality in the Venetian plain near Venice, the Sagra dea Rana returns every spring, one of the most deeply rooted gastronomic festivals in the area. For two long weekends straddling May and June, the food stand offers the great classics of frog cuisine — risotto, fried frogs, bisàteo — alongside grilled meats, culatello and burrata, while live music fills the square every evening. Free admission, ballroom dancing, inflatable games, and a charity raffle complete a genuine and popular village festival.

The frog festival in the Venetian plain

The Sagra dea Rana is the most anticipated gastronomic event in Cona, a municipality in the plain south of Venice, bordering the Padua region. Organized by the group Cona in Festa, the event celebrates a dish from the Venetian peasant tradition — the frog — the star of a humble cuisine that has become the identity of the village.

What to eat

The food stand is the heart of the festival. On the menu are the symbolic dishes of tradition: frog risotto, fried frogs, and bisàteo (eel), alongside more modern offerings such as mixed grills, culatello, and burrata. A cuisine that satisfies lovers of tradition and those looking for a simpler dish.

Music, dancing, and fun

Every evening the festival comes alive with live music and ballroom dancing, featuring the traditional Venetian ballroom orchestras that have always accompanied festivals in the plain. For the little ones, inflatable games are set up, while the charity raffle supports the association's activities. Admission is free, in the spirit of village festivals open to all.
