The flavour of the lake grilled over embers
The Sagra de lu Sarmerinu Carbonaretto is the summer gastronomic event of the village of Piediluco, in the municipality of Terni. The star is lu sarmerinu, or the royal perch from the lake: cooked directly over the flame, it takes on a characteristic black colour, from which the dialect term carbonaretto derives. A simple and iconic dish, an expression of Umbrian lakeside cuisine.
A centuries-old festival
The event takes place at the parish spaces of Santa Maria del Colle and is rooted in a tradition that has been renewed for many years. The evenings are dedicated to tasting lake fish specialities, in an atmosphere of popular celebration that draws residents and visitors to the shores of Lake Piediluco.
Devotion to the Madonna dell'Eco
The festival also has strong religious roots: it was created to honour the Madonna dell'Eco, the Marian statue placed on top of Monte Caperno, on the opposite bank from the village. For Ferragosto, on the evening of August 15th, a procession winds its way from the centre of the village to the lake, where it continues at night with illuminated boats and vessels, offering one of the most evocative images of the Terni summer.
Sagra de lu Sarmerinu â edition 2026
For 2026, the Sagra de lu Sarmerinu Carbonaretto takes place in Piediluco from August 6 to 15, at the parish spaces of Santa Maria del Colle. Every evening, the stalls offer the sarmerinu - the royal perch grilled over embers - along with other local lake fish specialities.
The highlight is expected on the evening of August 15th, when the Ferragosto celebration merges with popular devotion for the procession in honour of the Madonna dell'Eco: the procession descends from the centre of the village to the lake, continuing at night with illuminated boats and vessels.

Piediluco is about 15 km from Terni, reachable by car via the SS79 and by local bus. Nearest train station: Terni, on the Rome-Ancona line.
