The mountain bike granfondo in the heart of the Belìce Valley, between the Cretto di Burri and the woods of Trapani
The RWE Santa Ninfa MTB Granfondo is a benchmark event in the Sicilian mountain bike calendar. Held every June in the town of Santa Ninfa, in the province of Trapani, it attracts enthusiasts and professional riders from across the island. Now in its twelfth edition in 2026, the race is organized by ASD Finestrelle Bikers with the support of the Municipality of Santa Ninfa and the Free Municipal Consortium of Trapani.
The main route covers approximately 44 kilometers with over 1,300 meters of elevation gain, a significant portion of which is on dirt tracks. It is a challenging and selective course that winds through some of the area's most evocative landscapes: the Finestrelle and Sinapa woods, the Madonna delle Grazie village, the vineyards of the Belìce Valley, the RWE wind farm, and above all, the iconic Cretto di Burri and Gibellina Vecchia, a memorial to the 1968 earthquake transformed into a work of land art. For those looking for a less extreme challenge, a short course of about 20 km with 500 meters of elevation gain is also available.
The granfondo is more than just a competition: it is an outdoor sports festival that celebrates the nature and identity of the Belìce region. The event is open to both competitive and amateur categories, includes a dedicated E-bike race, and awards regional titles. In recent years, the number of participants crossing the finish line has consistently exceeded 200, confirming the event's growing prestige.
The 2025 edition saw Emanuele Spica triumph in the men's category and Chiara Vitello in the women's. In 2026, the day was dominated by Andrea Virga (Team Race Mountain), while Alessandra Tortorici (Jato Mountain Bikers) took the win in the women's race.
The 12th edition of the RWE Santa Ninfa MTB Granfondo took place on Sunday, June 14, 2026, starting at 9:30 AM from the town's historic center. The main route, 44 km long with 1,343 meters of elevation gain and 27% off-road, crossed the Finestrelle and Sinapa woods, the Madonna delle Grazie village, the RWE wind farm GPM, and the evocative Cretto di Burri near Gibellina Vecchia. A short 20 km track with 500 meters of elevation gain was also available.
In the men's category, Andrea Virga (Team Race Mountain) triumphed with a time of 1h57'14", ahead of Lorenzo Adamo and Michele Gazzara. Among the women, Alessandra Tortorici (Jato Mountain Bikers) won in 2h49'23", followed by Elisa Stodiale and Benedetta Simonetti. The race, part of the "Coast Challenge" circuit, saw 206 athletes cross the finish line of the main event, in addition to participants in the short course and E-bike category.
Santa Ninfa is located in the hinterland of the province of Trapani, Sicily. By car, it can be reached via the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo motorway, taking the Salemi-Gibellina exit and continuing towards Santa Ninfa. The nearest airports are Trapani-Birgi and Palermo-Punta Raisi.
Registration is handled by the organization ASD Finestrelle Bikers. Number pickup usually takes place on the Saturday before the race. The start is scheduled for the morning in the center of Santa Ninfa.
As this is a long and demanding off-road course, adequate physical preparation, a well-maintained mountain bike, and a water supply are recommended. Please verify dates and registration procedures through the organization's official channels.
