A folk evening featuring Schuhplattler dancers and a brass band in Collepietra
The Rustic Folklore Evening, known in German as the Volkstanzabend, is a traditional event that brings the Festplatz in Steinegg (Collepietra) to life. Located in the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco/Karneid, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige), this folk evening welcomes the public into a genuine, village-style atmosphere to rediscover the most authentic customs of South Tyrol, passed down through generations across the region.
The heart of the event is the performance by the Steinegg Schuhplattler group, which offers a rustic presentation of Tyrolean folk dances. The Schuhplattler, with its rhythmic slapping of hands on shoes and leather breeches, is one of the most characteristic expressions of German-speaking Alpine culture. Accompanying the dancers in their traditional Tracht costumes is a brass band, which completes the evening's soundscape with marches and popular melodies.
The evening was created with the explicit goal of ensuring that ancient traditions are not forgotten, while simultaneously offering visitors the chance to get to know the region and its people from a different, genuine perspective. It is an experience that combines entertainment, folk culture, and conviviality, appreciated by both holidaymakers and residents of the valley.
Steinegg-Collepietra, together with the nearby village of Gummer/San Valentino in Campo, is known as the Sternendorf, the "village of the stars" of the Val d'Ega, famous for its astronomical observatory and planetarium. Here, culture meets the starry sky of the Dolomites, and events like the Volkstanzabend enrich the village's summer with the folk roots of South Tyrol, at the foot of the Sciliar and Latemar massifs.
The event is held on a summer evening at the Steinegg Festplatz, located at Peter-Anich-Weg 16, starting in the late evening. The organization is managed by Eggental Tourismus, the Val d'Ega tourist board, which coordinates the district's rich calendar of summer events.
The 2026 folk evening will take place on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM, at the Festplatz in Steinegg (Collepietra), in the municipality of Cornedo all'Isarco/Karneid. As per tradition, the program includes a performance by the Steinegg Schuhplattler group featuring Tyrolean folk dances, accompanied by a brass band. Free entry. Meeting point at the Festplatz, Peter-Anich-Weg 16.
Steinegg-Collepietra can be reached by car via the Val d'Ega road (SS241), just a few kilometres from Bolzano. The event takes place at the Festplatz at Peter-Anich-Weg 16.
Parking is available along the main road in front of Café Christl and at the village square in Steinegg.
