The Biella area's charity march in support of the Biella Hospital
Run and Walk for Those Who Can't is a non-competitive walk and run held between the town of Ponderano and the Ospedale degli Infermi in Biella, Piedmont. Promoted by the Friends of the Biella Hospital Association, led by president Leo Galligani, the initiative was born with a clear goal: to turn a morning of outdoor sport into a tangible gesture of solidarity for local public healthcare.
The event is designed to involve the entire community: it is not a race, but a moment of celebration and participation open to all ages. Families with children, groups of friends, passionate runners, and even dogs on leashes are welcome to take part. The route includes a 3.5 km loop for walkers and two loops totaling 7 km for runners, on a simple and accessible track that winds around the hospital grounds.
All proceeds from registration are donated to upgrading the departments of the Biella Hospital. In the 2026 edition, the funds raised were directed toward the purchase of an Infant Care unit with neonatal resuscitation devices and a thermal cradle for internal neonatal transport, benefiting the Neonatology department. The association's keyword, as the president reminds us, is together: a hospital that is increasingly attractive and capable of offering quality care thanks to the support of the entire community.
The success of the event is made possible by the collaboration of numerous local entities. Alongside the Friends of the Biella Hospital Association, the Municipality and Pro Loco of Ponderano, the Biella Local Health Authority (ASL), the hospital's recreational club (CRAL), and various sports and volunteer associations work together:
Launched in 2025 with over 300 participants, the event reached approximately 400 registrants in its second edition, confirming itself as one of the most heartfelt charity events in the Biella calendar. Walking or running along these paths means not only enjoying a morning of movement and social interaction but also contributing directly to the improvement of local healthcare services.
The second edition of Run and Walk for Those Who Can't was held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in Ponderano (BI), recording approximately 400 registrants including groups, families with children, and dog owners.
The program included a meeting at 8:45 AM in the Biella Hospital parking lot, an optional warm-up from 9:00 AM hosted by In Sport Biella, and the start at 10:00 AM. Walkers completed a 3.5 km loop, while runners tackled two loops for a total of 7 km.
