Along the Kings' Paths, between the Ducal Castle and the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre
The Royal Walks are a hiking event promoted by the Consortium of Royal Residences of Savoy, inviting you to walk the legendary Kings' Paths, the network of trails that has connected the main Savoyard Residences of Piedmont, a UNESCO World Heritage site, since 2018. The Agliè itinerary, in the town of the same name in the Province of Turin, centers around the majestic Ducal Castle, a residence rich in history and court intrigue overlooking Piazza del Castello.
The walk offers two loops of different lengths, approximately 12 km and 22 km, winding through the western moraine of the Ivrea Morainic Amphitheatre. The paths cross characteristic Canavese villages—including Bairo, Torre Canavese, San Martino Canavese, and Vialfrè—passing by churches, castles, forests, and clearings opening onto the Piedmontese plains.
The itinerary around the Castle of Agliè marks an important milestone for the project: the route has been made permanent and signposted, allowing it to be walked freely at any time of the year, not just on the day of the event. This approach reflects the mission of the Royal Walks, which combine cultural promotion, conscious enjoyment of the territory, and sustainable tourism.
Walking along the Kings' Paths means immersing yourself in the Canavese landscape and the history of the Savoy dynasty. The Agliè itinerary is part of a broader program that, in various editions, involves other royal residences in Piedmont such as the castles of Govone, Racconigi, and Moncalieri, and the Hunting Residence of Stupinigi. An opportunity to discover the residences, villages, and food and wine traditions of the region at a slow pace.
