About Royal Community Tour

The Royal Community Tour offers a unique way to discover the Royal Castle of Govone, a UNESCO-listed Savoyard Residence, unlike any traditional visit. This is more than just a guided tour: it is a journey through time narrated by the village residents themselves—the community "ambassadors"—working alongside professional guides. From the historic park and the rose garden to the local churches and the apartments of the former summer residence of Charles Felix, you will uncover the stories, curiosities, and secrets of this corner of the Roero region, in the heart of the Cuneo province.

A royal castle seen through the eyes of those who live there

The Royal Community Tour is a cultural tourism experience held in Govone, a small village in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont, dominated by its splendid Royal Castle. The idea behind the project is simple and fascinating: to bring the territory to life through the eyes of those who call it home. For this reason, alongside professional guides, the citizens themselves—true ambassadors of the village—walk with you, ready to reveal anecdotes, traditions, and secrets that no guidebook mentions.

The Royal Castle of Govone, a Savoyard wonder

The Royal Castle of Govone is one of the Savoyard Residences, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997. It was the favorite summer residence of Charles Felix of Savoy, who turned it into a place of delight surrounded by Italian-style gardens, a rose garden, and a vast thirty-five-hectare park overlooking the Roero hills. Its rooms, from the royal apartments to the famous Chinese rooms, hold centuries of history, from the Counts Solaro to the House of Savoy.

What the tour includes

The visit is a walking itinerary of about three hours that crosses the symbolic places of the village:

  • the castle park and the evocative rose garden, with its botanical varieties explained by a passionate volunteer;
  • the Church of the Holy Spirit, often home to exhibitions and art installations related to the Roero region;
  • the village parish church;
  • the interiors of the Royal Castle, featuring the historic apartments of Charles Felix.

A project by the Savoyard Royal Residences

The Royal Community Tour is part of the "Savoyard Residences, a Royal Territory" project, promoted by the Consortium of Savoyard Royal Residences with the support of the Ministry of Tourism through the Fund for Municipalities with UNESCO sites. The initiative involves ten Piedmontese locations—including Venaria, Racconigi, Rivoli, Agliè, Moncalieri, Bra, Pollenzo, and, of course, Govone—with the goal of uniting royal heritage with the living community that surrounds it. It is a new and accessible way to visit Piedmont, where the visitor is not a spectator but a guest welcomed by the village inhabitants.
