Masked parades, confetti, and carnival traditions in Terre d'Adige
The Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival is a grand early spring festival involving the municipalities of the Piana Rotaliana, in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige). Within this widespread calendar, the municipality of Terre d'Adige — created from the merger of the villages of Nave San Rocco and Zambana — offers two distinct yet complementary days of celebration, organized by the local Pro Loco associations with the support of village groups.
In Nave San Rocco, the Carnival comes to life in the afternoon with a masked parade winding through the village streets. The center fills with confetti, costumes, and music, while children enjoy dedicated games and entertainment. There is no shortage of stalls serving traditional culinary specialties: crostoli, pasta, and the essential mulled wine to warm up the winter day.
In Zambana, Carnival is one of the most anticipated events of the year and represents the first major seasonal effort by the local Pro Loco, supported by other village associations. The day begins with a community lunch featuring polenta, sauerkraut, and lucanica sausage, followed by a masked parade accompanied by the Zambana brass band and children's entertainment at the parish hall. A particularly awaited moment is the one reserved for the coscritti (conscripts), featuring the traditional passing of the canarola, a symbol of the handover between the village age groups.
More than just an event, the Carnival of Nave San Rocco and Zambana is a collective ritual that unites different generations: from children in costume to the elderly, from families to the Pro Loco groups. Included in the Rotaliana Königsberg Carnival circuit — which also encompasses Roveré della Luna, Mezzolombardo, and other centers of the Piana — it offers visitors the chance to discover an authentic Trentino tradition, far from large tourist carnivals and close to the identity of the villages.
The 2026 Carnival in Rotaliana Königsberg also brought life to the municipality of Terre d'Adige with two dedicated days.
Starting at 2:00 PM, the masked parade set off through the village streets, offering an afternoon full of music, costumes, and games for children. Food stalls offered crostoli, pasta, and mulled wine.
The day opened at 12:00 PM with a lunch featuring polenta, sauerkraut, and lucanica sausage. At 2:30 PM, the masked parade accompanied by the Zambana brass band took place, followed at 3:30 PM by entertainment and games for children at the Don Bosco parish hall. There was also a special moment for the conscripts with the passing of the canarola.
Terre d'Adige (villages of Nave San Rocco and Zambana) is located in the Piana Rotaliana, north of Trento. By car: take the Trento Nord exit on the A22 Brenner motorway, then the SS12 towards Lavis/Mezzocorona. By train: Lavis or Mezzocorona stations on the Trento-Bolzano line, with connecting bus services.
All Carnival events are free to attend. Food stalls serving local specialties are available. For updated information on schedules and the program, it is recommended to contact the Pro Loco of Nave San Rocco and Zambana or the Rotaliana Königsberg Tourist Consortium.
