A community festival in Fai della Paganella

The San Rocco Festival is one of the most beloved traditions in the municipality of Fai della Paganella, located in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. It is celebrated every year on August 16th, the day dedicated to Saint Roch, and takes place in the picturesque Cortalta area, surrounding the small church of San Rocco and its namesake square. For over thirty years, the festival has drawn over a thousand people in a single day, from the afternoon until late at night.

Origins and tradition

Born in the late eighties with a simpler format, featuring traditional adult games like tug-of-war and sack races, the festival has grown year after year to become a staple of the Paganella Plateau's summer calendar. In 2025, the event marked its 35th anniversary. It is organized by the San Rocco Committee (San Rocco Cultural Association), which also oversees village development and the restoration of the small San Rocco church.

Trentino gastronomy

The delicious heart of the festival is dedicated to local specialties. The absolute star is the fried tortèl di patate, a signature dish of Paganella cuisine, served hot to guests. There is also a dessert stand featuring strudel, ricotta cake, krapfen, and Linzer torte, all prepared according to traditional Trentino and South Tyrolean recipes.
