The regional parade of floats and masks in the heart of Valsugana
In the heart of Valsugana, the town of Roncegno Terme (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige) celebrates one of the most cherished carnivals in the valley every winter. This is a regional carnival, open to groups and floats from neighboring communities who have gathered in Roncegno for decades to bring a massive collective parade to life. It is one of the most deeply rooted local traditions, attracting families, curious onlookers, and mask enthusiasts from across the entire Valsugana area.
The highlight is the parade that departs from Via Capraro and travels through the town: hand-built allegorical floats, walking groups, and individual masks bring the streets of Roncegno to life. The procession is officially opened by the Borgo Valsugana Civic Band, whose music sets the tone for the day's festivities. Colors, confetti, and costumes transform the town center into a long, open-air stage.
The Roncegno Carnival is also a culinary celebration. From noon, the kitchen opens its doors, serving a spaghetti feast for everyone alongside grostoli—the traditional, crispy, powdered-sugar-dusted fried pastries of the Trentino Carnival. In the afternoon, the unmissable lottery drawing takes place in Piazza Montebello, marking one of the most anticipated moments for the community.
The event is managed by the Roncegno Local Traditions Committee, which coordinates volunteers, groups, and catering every year to renew this deeply identity-driven appointment. The festival is also promoted by the Valsugana Tourist Board, which includes it in the valley's rich carnival calendar. Attending the Roncegno Terme Carnival means immersing yourself in an authentic tradition where the joy of a village festival blends with a true sense of togetherness.
The Carnival typically takes place on a Sunday, with festivities starting at noon and the parade in the early afternoon. It is a free, family-friendly event: we recommend arriving early to secure a good spot along the parade route and to enjoy the food in the square.
The 2026 Roncegno Terme Carnival was held on Sunday, February 15 in Valsugana, with a backup date of February 22 in case of bad weather. The day followed the traditional format of the regional festival, with allegorical floats, walking groups, and individual masks gathering on Via Capraro.
In case of bad weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, February 22.
Roncegno Terme is located in Valsugana, along the SS47 Valsugana highway that connects Trento to Bassano del Grappa. It is easily accessible by car from Trento (approx. 30 km). By train, the Roncegno-Marter station is on the Trento-Venice (Valsugana) railway line.
The parade is traditionally held on a Sunday afternoon during the Carnival period; in case of bad weather, the event may be postponed to the following Sunday.
Participation in the festival and parade is free. Spaghetti, grostoli, and lottery tickets are available for a donation or for purchase on-site.
