Floats, masquerades, and village festivities in the heart of the Novara area

The Romentino Carnival is one of the most cherished winter events in the municipality of Romentino, in the province of Novara, located on the eastern plains of Piedmont. As is the case in many towns throughout the Novara region, the Carnival transforms the village streets and squares into an open-air theatre filled with confetti, masks, music, and shared celebrations, where local associations, the parish, and community groups collaborate to create a popular event with a strong local appeal.
The heart of the festival is the parade of allegorical floats that winds through the village streets, accompanied by masked groups and the infectious joy of children and families. The floats, the result of weeks of hard work by volunteers, bring the streets of Romentino to life with colours, choreography, and boundless imagination, in a tradition typical of the Piedmontese and Novara Carnival.
Alongside the parades, the Romentino Carnival offers highly anticipated social gatherings, such as themed dinners organised in local venues, featuring dishes from traditional Novara and Piedmontese cuisine. There is no shortage of refreshments, typical Carnival sweets, and entertainment for children, in a festive atmosphere that involves the entire municipality.
More than just an event, the Romentino Carnival represents an opportunity for the community to come together: a moment when the village reunites, generations mingle, and the popular traditions of Piedmont take centre stage. The event is promoted in collaboration with the Municipality of Romentino, the parish, and local associations, a sign of how deeply rooted the Carnival is in the life of the territory.
The Romentino Carnival is held, as per tradition, during the Carnival period, generally between Shrove Sunday and Shrove Tuesday in February. Dates and the detailed programme are announced year by year by the organisers and through the official channels of the Municipality of Romentino and local entities.
