A tradition lasting over four centuries
The Ancient Saint Martin's Fair in Inveruno, in the province of Milan, has been documented since 1680 in the archives of the State Archives of Milan: a very rare continuity that places it among the oldest and most rooted fairs in Lombardy. Dedicated to the patron saint Saint Martin the Bishop, the event marks the life of the village in the Alto Milanese every November, attracting thousands of visitors from across the province and beyond.
The heart of the fair is the traditional market, which on the main day fills Piazza San Martino and the streets of the center with hundreds of stalls. The agricultural and rural vocation is strong: the fair hosts the animal breeds exhibition, the educational farm, the "Custodians of Biodiversity" exhibition, and the traditional blessing of agricultural machinery, a legacy of the deep bond between Inveruno and the land.
The program is enriched each year with exhibitions (photography, naval modeling, watercolor), light and color shows, cultural meetings, and gastronomic moments. The dimension of reflection is not lacking, with cycles of meetings dedicated to the future of agriculture and food. The festival thus combines the commercial dimension with the cultural, educational, and religious one, in a balance that is the secret of its longevity.
For the Municipality of Inveruno, the Saint Martin's Fair is not just an event: it is a foundational element of local identity, capable of bringing generations together and telling the agricultural history of the Lombard plain. Walking among the stalls during the fair days means coming into contact with a living tradition that has spanned centuries without losing its meaning.
The 418th edition of the Ancient Saint Martin's Fair takes place from Friday, November 14 to Monday, November 17, 2026, in Inveruno, in the province of Milan. Four days that combine market, agriculture, exhibitions, shows, and culture, with the usual focus on the biodiversity and peasant traditions of the Alto Milanese.
