A night of art, music, and flavors in the medieval village of Val d'Ossola
The Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy is a national event that animates hundreds of small Italian historic centers every year around the summer solstice. In Vogogna, in the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola (Piedmont), this evening becomes the perfect occasion to experience one of the region's most fascinating villages in an intimate and evocative atmosphere.
Vogogna is the only town in the province to have kept its 14th-century medieval architectural layout intact: for this reason, it is part of the 'Most Beautiful Villages of Italy' circuit and has been awarded the Orange Flag by the Touring Club. Its cobbled streets, the Palazzo Pretorio commissioned in 1348 by Giovanni Visconti, and the Visconti Castle overlooking the Val d'Ossola provide a natural backdrop for a night dedicated to beauty and memories.
From late afternoon until midnight, the historic center transforms into an emotional journey of art, photography, music, theater, creativity, and local flavors. The initiative involves local associations, artists, and regional producers, with a program that changes from year to year while maintaining its romantic and communal spirit.
The Romantic Night is promoted by the I Borghi piรน Belli d'Italia association, a member of the international federation 'Les Plus Beaux Villages de la Terre'. In 2026, over 400 villages in all regions are participating in the initiative, each with a personalized program. In Vogogna, the organization is managed by the Municipality together with local associations, which reinterpret the national theme with their own unique touch every year.
For those visiting the Val d'Ossola, the Romantic Night is also a way to discover an authentic corner of Piedmont, nestled among mountains, medieval history, and gastronomic traditions, just a few kilometers from the Val Grande National Park and Lake Maggiore.
The 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in Vogogna takes place on Saturday, June 20, from 6:00 PM until midnight, with the national theme 'Love for Memories'. The village's historic center transforms into a widespread journey through art, photography, theater, and the flavors of the Val d'Ossola.
Key locations include Palazzo Pretorio, Villa Biraghi, and the Visconti Castle area, which host exhibitions, workshops, shows, and tastings. In case of bad weather, the event will be cancelled.
Theme of the edition: 'Love for Memories'.
Tasting of local products with the Edoardo Patrone winery, Dea, and Tisti Pastry Shop. The ticket includes 2 glasses of wine, a selection of cheeses, a taste of cured meats, bread, and focaccia from Tisti, plus a kit with a glass and a pouch.
Vogogna is located in the Val d'Ossola, along the Sempione state road. By car: A26 Voltri-Gravellona motorway, then the SS33 del Sempione expressway until the Vogogna exit. By train: the Vogogna-Premosello station is on the Domodossola-Milan line, just a few minutes' walk from the historic center.
The event typically takes place from 6:00 PM until midnight, coinciding with the summer solstice (late June).
Most activities (exhibitions, shows, workshops) are free to attend. Food and wine tastings require payment and booking. In case of bad weather, the event may be cancelled.
