A candlelit evening of love and magic in the stone village of the Monti Dauni
In the heart of the Monti Dauni, in the province of Foggia, the town of Roseto Valfortore participates in the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy. This national event, promoted by the «I Borghi più Belli d'Italia» association, sees the most enchanting historic centers across Italy simultaneously illuminated by candles, torches, and soft lighting at the end of June. For one night, the entire village turns into an open-air stage dedicated to love, slow living, and the beauty of authentic places, in a ritual shared by over two hundred villages from the north to the south of the peninsula.
Roseto Valfortore is a small jewel of the Daunian Apennines, a village built entirely of local stone, with narrow alleys, stairways, carved portals, and houses that climb along the Fortore river valley. Recognized as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, the town has made its floral identity — summarized in the «Roseto Rosae» project — and slow tourism its distinctive features. Flower-filled vistas, historic churches, and panoramas over the Monti Dauni make Roseto a naturally romantic setting, which glows with even more intense charm on the night in late June.
The evening follows the format of the national event: the historic center is decorated with candles, rose petals, and soft lights, while live music accompanies walks and guided tours through the village alleys. In Roseto Valfortore, the event traditionally unfolds around Piazza Bartolomeo III and the evocative Via Coste, with musical stops, aperitifs, and themed dinners offered by the local bars and restaurants.
The Romantic Night unites every participating village through shared symbolic gestures: the sweet Pensiero d'Amore, the official dessert of the initiative created by a Michelin-starred chef and served in participating venues as a tribute to lovers, and the gift of a rose to couples as a symbol of love. Squares, palaces, and alleys fill with music, lights, and romance, in an experience that involves both residents and visitors.
The Romantic Night is part of the rich «Summer in Roseto Valfortore» program, which enlivens the village from May to September with patronal feasts, trekking, workshops, and the famous food festivals of the Monti Dauni — from the Porchetta Festival to the Truffle Festival. Organized by the Municipality with the involvement of local associations, the evening is the ideal opportunity to discover Roseto Valfortore in a new light and experience a night dedicated to beauty, music, and emotions, in the spirit of a tradition that celebrates Italy's small historic centers.
For the 2026 edition of the Romantic Night in the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, Roseto Valfortore confirmed its participation in the national event, including it in the rich calendar of the «Summer 2026» program, which enlivens the Monti Dauni village from May to September.
As per the tradition of the event, the historic center came alive with candles, rose petals, and soft lights, accompanied by music and the romantic atmosphere that envelops the alleys and squares of the Apulian village. The national rituals of the initiative were also present: the Pensiero d'Amore dessert in participating venues and the gift of a rose to couples. The event was organized by the Municipality of Roseto Valfortore with the involvement of local associations.
Roseto Valfortore is located in the Monti Dauni, at the northwestern tip of the province of Foggia, bordering Campania. By car, it can be reached via the SS17 and the provincial roads that climb the Fortore valley; the nearest motorway exit is on the A16 Naples-Canosa. The reference railway station is Foggia, from where you can continue by bus or car.
Participation in the Romantic Night is free and open to all. Aperitifs, themed dinners, and the «Pensiero d'Amore» dessert are offered by participating venues for a fee.
The Romantic Night traditionally takes place on an evening in late June, as part of the village's summer calendar.
