About Roma Borgata Festival · Trullo

In the heart of the Trullo district, on the southwestern outskirts of Rome, the Roma Borgata Festival brings contemporary dance to the public housing units of Lotto 8. The 2026 stage, featuring the site-specific performance 'The Trullo Sequence' by choreographer Sil Marti, transforms courtyards, walkways, and shared spaces into an immersive, open-air stage. Born from an artistic residency, the show unfolds through five choreographic sequences that capture the daily life of the neighborhood, exploring themes of care, labor, and community. The festival is promoted by A.S.A.P.Q. under the artistic direction of Alessandra Muschella.

A festival that inhabits Rome's suburbs

The Roma Borgata Festival is a widespread cultural event that brings theater, dance, music, and contemporary circus to the outskirts and neighborhoods of the Capital, turning local markets, public housing courtyards, bars, and parks into open-air stages. In the 2026 edition, the festival spans eight Roman districts along the Grande Raccordo Anulare, from Centocelle to Torpignattara, with over eighty events scheduled from May to September. The stage dedicated to Trullo, in the Municipality of Rome (Lazio), takes place from June 8th to 13th, 2026, centered around the performance The Trullo Sequence.

The Trullo Sequence: dance in Lotto 8

The highlight of this stage is The Trullo Sequence, a site-specific dance project conceived and choreographed by Sil Marti, with choreographic assistance from Giulia Federico. The performance is the result of a week-long artistic residency within Lotto 8, the ATER public housing complex that defines the neighborhood's identity. The shared spaces of the district—entryways, balconies, staircases, and courtyards—become the backdrop for a choral narrative on daily life, gestures of care, work, and coexistence.

The Trullo stage program

The Trullo Sequence unfolds through five choreographic sequences that guide the audience on a journey through Lotto 8, offering fresh perspectives on the popular architecture and the relationships within it:

  • Pelle Pubblica (Public Skin) - the shared surfaces of the buildings as a boundary between the intimate and the collective;
  • Architetture della Cura (Architectures of Care) - the daily gestures that hold a community together;
  • Scacchiera (Chessboard) - the geometry of the courtyards as a space for meeting and play;
  • Del Vento (Of the Wind) - the movement flowing through the neighborhood's open spaces;
  • Sul Margine (On the Edge) - the suburbs as a place of thresholds and possibilities.

The show premieres on June 13, 2026, preceded by a residency starting June 8th that involves local residents in a shared creative process.

A.S.A.P.Q. and artistic direction

The Roma Borgata Festival is a project by A.S.A.P.Q. - Associazione Socioculturale Attività Polivalente di Quartiere, under the artistic direction of Alessandra Muschella. Launched in 2025 and now in its second edition in 2026, the festival aims to turn Roman suburbs into true hubs of artistic and social experimentation, renewing ties with local communities and fostering inclusive access to creative processes. The inaugural edition attracted over eight thousand spectators.

Trullo, a historic Roman suburb

Trullo is a historic district on the southwestern outskirts of Rome, established in the 1930s along the Via Portuense, between the Tiber River and the Magliana area. Its public housing and courtyards tell a piece of the city's history and its popular identity. Bringing contemporary dance here means recognizing the district's active cultural role, in dialogue with the rest of Lazio and the Capital's art scene.
