A stronghold of the contemporary scene in Rome

Teatri di Vetro is one of the longest-running and most acclaimed festivals in the independent performing arts scene of Rome, in the Lazio region. Born in 2007 from the experience of Triangolo Scaleno Teatro and led by playwright and director Roberta Nicolai, the festival is dedicated to contemporary languages and the promotion of emerging aesthetics. It is not merely a calendar of shows, but a continuous research project where the stage becomes a laboratory, a creative workshop, and a place for dialogue.

Nineteen years of performing arts research

Reaching its nineteenth year in 2025, Teatri di Vetro has built a community of artists, scholars, and spectators over time around the idea of the stage as a stronghold of practice and thought. The festival weaves together performance, contemporary dance, research theatre, digital arts, and theoretical reflection, offering artists the space and time to experiment, deconstruct their creative processes, and showcase them to the public in an open format.

Festival sections

The programme is traditionally divided into several sections, each with its own methodological and thematic identity:

• Oscillazioni — the heart of the festival, hosted at Teatro India, where artistic processes are presented and discussed;
• Composizioni — participatory projects and urban interventions, often held at Teatro del Lido di Ostia;
• Residenze Digitali and Open Feedback — dedicated to digital creation, screendance, and dialogue between artists and the audience;
• .MOV — the platform for performative physicality and screendance, featuring open calls for artists.

A festival spread across the city

Teatri di Vetro does not have a single venue: it unfolds as a widespread event connecting various cultural sites in Rome, from Teatro India — on the banks of the Tiber in the Ostiense-Portuense area, in the shadow of the Gazometro — to Teatro del Lido di Ostia, and spaces like Spazio Rossellini. This mobile geography reflects the festival's vocation: bringing performing arts research into the heart of the city, engaging different neighbourhoods and communities.
