The rock music festival set among the snow-capped mountain huts of Val Gardena
Rock the Dolomites — Winter Music Festival is a winter musical event held every March in Selva di Val Gardena/Wolkenstein in Gröden, in the autonomous province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige. At the foot of the Sella massif and along the famous Sellaronda ski circuit, the festival transforms the mountain huts, alpine lodges, and après-ski terraces of the Dolomiti Superski area into open-air stages, with the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites as a stunning backdrop.
The formula is as simple as it is original: a series of live concerts spread over ten days, where mostly regional South Tyrolean bands perform a repertoire spanning various subgenres of rock. The contrast between electric sounds and the snow-covered landscape is the hallmark of the festival, offering skiers and visitors an experience that defies the traditional, romantic image of the Val Gardena mountains.
The concerts are held at various locations both at high altitude and in the valley, accessible via ski lifts or on skis. Regularly featured venues include:
One of the most appreciated aspects of Rock the Dolomites is that it is completely free: no tickets or reservations are required. Simply show up at the concerts to enjoy the music in the sun between ski runs. The event takes place towards the end of the ski season, accompanying enthusiasts into the spring competitions and cementing its status as one of the premier winter events in Val Gardena.
The municipality of Selva di Val Gardena is one of the most renowned tourist destinations in South Tyrol, immersed in a unique landscape and defined by the valley's Ladin traditions. Rock the Dolomites thus combines the region's contemporary musical identity with the charm of the Dolomites, offering yet another reason to visit Val Gardena in late winter.
The 2026 festival was held from March 19 to 28 in Selva di Val Gardena, with thirteen performances distributed across the huts and lodges of the Dolomiti Superski area. Admission to all concerts was free of charge.
The 2026 edition brought together mostly South Tyrolean bands and guest artists:
Artistic direction by Diego Moroder, organized by the Selva Val Gardena Tourist Office.
Selva di Val Gardena can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit: Chiusa-Val Gardena), then following the SS242. By train, the reference stations are Bressanone or Chiusa, with bus connections to the valley. The nearest airport is Bolzano; Innsbruck and Verona are also well-connected options.
All concerts are free to attend, with no tickets or reservations required. Many performances take place at high altitude: a ski pass or the use of ski lifts is necessary to reach some of the mountain huts and lodges.
Winter mountain clothing is recommended. Please check the updated program and schedule on the official website, as concert locations and times may vary depending on weather conditions and lift operations.
