About Ridefinire il Gioiello

The Museo del Bijou in Casalmaggiore, unique in Italy, hosts the tenth edition of "Ridefinire il Gioiello", a national project that investigates jewellery as an autonomous artistic language. The 2026 theme, "Mountain: beyond the summit", brings together 47 artist-made jewels crafted from non-precious materials, inspired by the mountain understood as landscape, archetype, and metaphor, and by the horizon of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. Curated since 2010 by Sonia Patrizia Catena, the exhibition is open from March 7th to September 27th, 2026 (closed in August).

A unique museum in Italy

In Casalmaggiore, in the Province of Cremona, the Museo del Bijou preserves the memory of a city that was once the capital of gold-plated costume jewellery. It is in this setting that "Ridefinire il Gioiello" comes to life each year, a national exhibition project that brings contemporary jewellery into the realm of artistic research, considering it not merely as an ornament but as a true autonomous language.

Tenth edition: the mountain as a metaphor

The 2026 edition, the tenth, is themed "Mountain: beyond the summit". On display are 47 artist-made jewels crafted from non-precious materials, interpreting the mountain as a natural landscape, a symbolic archetype, and a metaphorical energy, rather than a literal image. A theme that also dialogues with the horizon of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.

Artists and works in dialogue

Among the protagonists, artist Alex Sala presents the work EREMITAGGIO, in dialogue with the exhibited jewels, while the winner Gaia Descovich showcases pieces from her Calanchi Collection, inspired by hilly landscapes. The artistic direction is by Sonia Patrizia Catena, who has guided the project since its first edition in 2010.

A national event

With ten editions to its name, "Ridefinire il Gioiello" is now a benchmark event for contemporary art jewellery in Italy, capable of attracting artists and collectors from all over the country to Casalmaggiore and renewing, year after year, the dialogue between the region's goldsmithing tradition and artistic research.
