The tenth edition of the artist's jewellery project at the Museo del Bijou
In Casalmaggiore, in the Province of Cremona, the Museo del Bijou preserves the memory of a city that was once the capital of gold-plated costume jewellery. It is in this setting that "Ridefinire il Gioiello" comes to life each year, a national exhibition project that brings contemporary jewellery into the realm of artistic research, considering it not merely as an ornament but as a true autonomous language.
The 2026 edition, the tenth, is themed "Mountain: beyond the summit". On display are 47 artist-made jewels crafted from non-precious materials, interpreting the mountain as a natural landscape, a symbolic archetype, and a metaphorical energy, rather than a literal image. A theme that also dialogues with the horizon of the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
Among the protagonists, artist Alex Sala presents the work EREMITAGGIO, in dialogue with the exhibited jewels, while the winner Gaia Descovich showcases pieces from her Calanchi Collection, inspired by hilly landscapes. The artistic direction is by Sonia Patrizia Catena, who has guided the project since its first edition in 2010.
With ten editions to its name, "Ridefinire il Gioiello" is now a benchmark event for contemporary art jewellery in Italy, capable of attracting artists and collectors from all over the country to Casalmaggiore and renewing, year after year, the dialogue between the region's goldsmithing tradition and artistic research.
The 2026 edition, the tenth, opens with the inauguration on March 7th, 2026, at 4:30 PM at the Museo del Bijou and continues until September 27th, 2026 (closed during August). The theme "Mountain: beyond the summit" brings together 47 artist-made jewels in non-precious materials.
Among the works in dialogue with the jewels are EREMITAGGIO by Alex Sala and the Calanchi Collection by winner Gaia Descovich. Curated by Sonia Patrizia Catena.
