Alfonso Borghi's works dialogue with Luigi Menozzi's poetry at the Museo Diotti
At the Museo Diotti in Casalmaggiore, a city in the Province of Cremona overlooking the Po, the exhibition "Certe volte sul Po" creates a dialogue between two languages: the painting of Alfonso Borghi and the poetry of Luigi Menozzi (1937-2015). About twenty works on paper were created as a visual response to the poet's verses, in a journey that uses the river and its landscape as a common thread.
Born and active in the Reggio Emilia area, in Caprara di Campegine, Alfonso Borghi has been painting since 1965, evolving from figurative-expressionist to a predominantly abstract, gestural, and colourful painting style that evokes landscapes without ever being purely descriptive. In this exhibition, his colour and matter adapt to Menozzi's words: they intensify to convey the roughness of nature, then shift to whites to suggest the fog and light of the Po Valley plain.
In addition to works on paper, the exhibition includes ceramics made at the Fornace San Giorgio in Albisola and recent bronze sculptures, showcasing the infinite potential of matter in the artist's hands. The exhibition is curated by Stefania Provinciali.
The exhibition venue is the Museo Diotti, the city's art institution in Casalmaggiore, named after the painter Giuseppe Diotti. A place that, with this exhibition, confirms the city's commitment to culture on the banks of the great river, in the heart of the Oglio-Po region.
