The undisputed star is the warm ricotta, prepared on-site by local shepherds who heat milk in large cauldrons right in front of visitors. Alongside the ricotta, you can taste tuma, a fresh cheese with a delicate, slightly sweet flavor. The ricotta from the Mazzarino shepherds is considered among the best in the region, and being able to taste it freshly made, still steaming, is the experience that draws curious food lovers every year.
The festival is not an isolated event: it is part of the celebrations in honor of the Madonna del Rosario, venerated in Mazzarino as the patron saint of shepherds. The dates for the 2026 edition of the Ricotta Festival in Mazzarino have not yet been published. The event is usually held in October, in the courtyard of the former San Domenico Convent, as part of the celebrations in honor of the Madonna del Rosario, the patron saint of shepherds. As every year, the live preparation of warm ricotta and tuma by local shepherds is expected. The detailed program will be communicated by the organizers closer to the event.
